Influence of Technology on Communication
Modern information and communication technologies affect the changes in society. Along with globalization, the researchers discovered a new vector of the transformation of society to commit – “virtualization”, that means the transition key activities in the virtual space of the Internet. Information and communication activities of people moved to interact online. Despite the fact that the Internet is a very young invention, it has become commonplace in modern humans. Originally it was planned to use for military purposes in order to be able to consolidate servers militarized centers into a single network (Giddens, Duneier, and Appelbaum, 2012). But time has shown that the Internet was found wider application. It is no matter what people think about modern technologies, they became the significant part of day-to-day life of every person.
Modern technologies allow people to maximally facilitate their existence. However, at the same time, every new invention may lead to the fact that people will gradually return to the animal state: the increasing importance satisfaction of physiological needs, and spiritual world grows scanty, because humans have less motivation to self development. Why, for example, it is necessary to visit museums, if it is possible to live with the comfort and without many cultural values. Furthermore, man is by nature needs in communication with the people like he/she is. Nowadays, real communication is often replaced by the Internet and online communications. So because of the progress of technology a person loses skills with ability to “communicate in life” (Przybylski, and Weinstein, 2012).
The opportunity that rose because of the modern technologies development, to communicate with people in different parts of the world has been made available to any Internet user. Various social services help to find friends or classmates, all of the contacts which have long since been lost. However, not everything in the virtual communication is good, because in order for man to be happy, he needs to society. No wonder the man creates a family, make friends, meet companies on vacation, since this is what gives the pleasure of communicating and not a faceless monitor, camera, microphone (Haytham, 2013). This type of connection is good temporarily, but not permanently. When the people are far from each other it arise a virtual communication, that helps people to talk and know about changes in the lives of each other, however still, people miss each other. Everyone feels a great need in ordinary communication, because it gives the ability to hug a person, to feel his/her emotions, to look in the eyes, etc.
A lot of different researches about the influence of communication on people were hold. And most of them have found that more sociable people live much longer than those who prefer isolation from society. Scientists point out that modern technology and the ability to communicate often give rise to the illusion of a virtual irrelevance of companionship in real life. However, the “virtual friendship” does not have the same effect as personal communication with completely different people. This constant interaction between people is not only beneficial to the psyche, but also has a positive effect on health.
With the ability to communicate only the real meaning of the term “friendship” has significantly changed. When the person sees his/her friends online, it seems to that they maintain a close relationship. Thus there is a risk of forgetting what it means friendship in the real world. Friendships are displaced surrogate: loneliness visits people, when all the gadgets are turned off, and people start to deal one-on-one.
Computers and modern information technology has been steadily pushing humanity towards a new world order of information. The influence of computer and Internet is ambiguous. On the one hand, they are the perfect new tool for learning and the obtaining of the information can be in the worlds of entertaining, and without a great expenditure of energy, take a bored man to enter into contact with a variety of people who are sometimes thousands kilometers. On the other – the computer and the Internet often block access to other forms of day-today life: people are often immersed in an illusory reality, transforming the one’s consciousness. Therefore, it is necessary to remember that virtual communication will never substitute the real one.
